View from underneath the tower structure. The Eiffel tower is held together with 2.5 million rivets and the 10,100 metric tons of iron exerts a pressure of 4 kg per sq cm (57 lb per sq inch), the equivalent of the weight of a man sitting on a chair. Even in the strongest of winds, the tower has never swayed more than 12 cm (4 inches). Up to 40 metric tons of paint has to be used, when it is painted every seven years. Caption source: Discovery Channel. Looking up at the top. Yes, it's time to go to the top and check the view! View of Jardins du Trocadero and its fountains, the curved wings of Palais de Chaillot (palace of museums), and the modern skyline in the background. The view is from the second level of the tower. Buildings illuminated by the the last moments of sunset light. Do things look a little bit smaller? Yes, we have now made it to the top of the tower.
